Matching infinity ankle tattoos
Ankle · Black and grey · Photo
Two tattoos sit on the ankles of a pair of feet, one a simple double infinity loop and the other a larger infinity loop with ornate scrolls, dots and a small crown. Both designs are drawn in black ink with clean, even linework and no shading. The photo is taken at close range against a warm, cluttered background, with the feet filling most of the frame.

The ribbon had come off the Bristol boat in a box that smelled of tar, forty yards of it, and Mrs Pardoe wanted it cut before the regatta or not at all. Nell held the spool while her sister Ada chalked the mark on the boards. Gulls worked the bins behind the stall and the brass band was tuning somewhere past the lifeboat shed, all flat notes and patience.

The mayor's order had been particular. Each length was to carry a small gold crown stitched in one corner and a curl of scrollwork that looped back on itself, with the word King worked into the tail of it for the old fishing fleet, though nobody on the pier could say which king. Ada wanted to sell it by the yard to the holidaymakers. Nell wanted it kept whole, and they had argued about it since breakfast, pinning and unpinning the ribbon across the counter like a pair of cats with one ball of wool.
In the end Ada took up the scissors and Nell caught her wrist over the chalk line. They tied the ribbon instead in a figure of eight, the loop passing through itself, and turned it over and over until neither of them could find where it began or stopped. Mrs Pardoe paid for it as one length and walked off muttering about thrift.
At dusk two boys in borrowed boots came to the stall, each asking for the ribbon without a word about the price. Nell knelt and tied a loop round each of their ankles, the knot running between them, and Ada pretended not to notice the sum she was not taking.
