Matching mandala and flower thigh tattoos
Geometric · Thigh · Mixed · Photo
Two matching mandala tattoos sit on the backs of the upper thighs, each with a radiating centre built from black linework and red, pink and cream petal shapes. A red flower with black outlines sits beside each mandala, lower and to the outside of the leg. The colour is bold and saturated against the fair skin, with solid fills and fine black detailing.

Nell, the Ardent went out at four without Tom Pascoe, who has taken the fever and is lying in his bunk calling for his wife. Ellis asked me to steer her past the breakwater because I have the best eye for the bar, and I did it with my hands shaking on the tiller. Your letter came on Tuesday's post. I have read it so often the folds have gone soft, especially the part about the star you want painted on the Morwenna's transom before she sails for Newlyn.

You asked me to describe the sampler Mrs Penhallow keeps in her front room. It is a round star worked in red wool on cream linen, with black thread running through the centre like the spokes of a wheel, and petals folded inward so tight you can't see where one ends and the next begins. She says her mother stitched it the winter the first boat was lost off the Gull Rock, and that you can sit with it until the room goes quiet. I sat with it an hour on Thursday and did not once think about the price of pilchards.
The boats came back at dusk with the tide behind them. I counted them in from the slip, one, two, three, the way you taught me, and when I got to four I stopped counting and started again. Ellis came up the steps with a full hold and his cap in his hand, and he didn't say anything, just nodded at the water.
Later I went home and drew a small star on the back of my hand in blue pen, black lines inside it and a red petal at each point. I left it there until the ink went dull and the lamp was out, and then I washed it off, because I could not stand to keep the thing that waited for the boats to come in. Write back soon. Tell me you've painted the transom and that it's crooked. I'd like to be cross about something that isn't the sea.
