Matching moon and infinity quote tattoos
Lettering · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
Two matching forearm tattoos show an infinity symbol formed by a looping line of script reading 'I love you to the moon and back', with a shaded crescent moon at each end and small stars and dots along the curve. The second arm is rotated so its phrase reads upside down relative to the first, and the pair mirrors each other. The linework is clean, the moons are grey shaded, and the palette is entirely black and grey against bare skin and a wooden surface.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
Mr Oddy had painted shop signs in Alford for thirty years, and he did not care for the new lettering the council wanted on the bus shelter. Eleven-year-old Peggy Hale came in every Saturday to watch him work, and on this particular morning she brought her brother Tom's torch and asked whether a loop of letters could hold a sentence the way a rope holds a bell.

He sketched it on brown paper first. The line began at a crescent moon, curled through a scatter of stars, swung back under the words and rose to a second moon, so that one long stroke lay on its side like a figure eight. "I love you to the moon and back," she read aloud, keeping her finger well clear of the wet ink.
"That's a long way to send a little brother," Mr Oddy said, though he was already measuring the card. Tom was due at Catterick on the Monday, his papers folded in his breast pocket as if they might bite. The painter did the design twice, once upright for Tom and once with the words turned so that, pressed wrist to wrist, the sentence would read straight on both cards.
Tom's train pulled out at seven. Peggy stood on the platform holding her half, the letters running backwards in her palm until she turned it over and found the moon. She traced the loop with her thumb, round and round, and it always came back to the place where she had started.
