Matching pineapple tattoos on calves
Geometric · Calf · Black and grey · Photo
The image shows two near-identical pineapple tattoos, one on each calf, viewed from behind. Each pineapple has a crown of pointed leaves and a body filled with an interlocking geometric pattern of overlapping circles and triangles. The ink is solid black with fine outlines and a dotted texture, set against bare skin on a dark tiled floor.

They sat on the bottom row, cracking their knuckles and passing the same exercise book back and forth. One of them had a grandad who'd been a joiner, and he kept a biscuit tin of offcuts in his shed. Inside was a sheet of paper covered in circles that overlapped like rings in a puddle, and wherever two met you got a sharp little triangle, like a drawing pin. Then came the Christmas dance, a boy called Terry Pell, and a row so loud the headmistress made them both stand in the corridor with their backs to the radiator. They didn't speak for six years. Nobody could have guessed what they'd do next, least of all me.
At this reunion, they came in together, rolled their trousers up under the table, and there they were: a pineapple on each calf, crowned with spiky leaves, the bodies filled with the same tangled circles. Somebody asked who thought of it first. Neither of them would say. They just looked at each other across the hall, and the tea went cold.
