Matching pizza slice tattoos on feet
Fine line · Other · Black and grey · Photo
Two bare feet rest side by side on a wooden floor, each with a small pizza slice tattoo in thin black outline. Each slice has a crust along the top edge and round dots inside that suggest pepperoni. The linework is simple and even, with no shading, and the ink is black on the skin, with the slices sitting in similar positions on each foot.

Dear Tom,

The cart is packed up behind the Co-op in Ashby and the rain has finally stopped, so I can write this without oil drips spotting the page. Mum says she's glad you took the ghost train job, though she won't admit it. Mr Pargeter wants the pizza van back by Thursday for the Pembroke Show, and I told him you'd sort the generator, because you always do.
Remember the afternoon in Skegness when we went into that parlour on the front and came out with the same little slice drawn in black? The man said he'd do ours for nothing if we kept still, and you sang the whole time so I wouldn't shout. Dolores still thinks it was the daftest thing two grown women ever did. I look at the stencil sheet he gave us whenever the heating's off and the stall smells of onions and cold fat.
Something odd happened yesterday. A girl came up to the hatch with a hot box and asked if we were the people with the pepperoni slices. Her nan had seen ours on a fair in 1962 and drawn one on a napkin, and she'd kept the napkin in her purse for forty years. I gave her an extra slice on the house and told her to say hello to you if she saw the dodgems. I thought you'd want to know somebody's still carrying our little joke about.
Write soon. Mind the cold, and don't let Pargeter sell you the bad fan belt.
Love, Jean
