Matching Sisters heartbeat tattoos on feet
Fine line · Ankle · Black and grey · Photo
Three pairs of bare feet rest together on a dark wooden floor, with denim and light fabric sleeves visible at the top of the frame. Each foot carries a thin black tattoo of the word Sisters in cursive script, joined to a small heart formed by a heartbeat line. The linework is crisp and even, and the soft, warm lighting keeps the black ink clearly visible against the skin.

The generator coughs behind the dodgems, and Dilys is already on the caravan step before you have finished parking the van. She has her trainers in one hand and a crumpled ten-pound note in the other, the note smelling of candyfloss and diesel. 'Fenn does it cheaper after nine,' she says, which is her way of saying she has been waiting since breakfast.

Inside, the caravan smells of TCP and hot wires. Fenn has a tray of needles laid out like a row of tiny silver teeth, and a stencil book gone soft at the corners. He sketches on tracing paper while the organ outside winds down: a flat line, a rise, a sharp drop, then a second rise taller than the first. 'What's the word?' he asks, pen hovering. You both answer at once, the way you always did on the back seat of Nan's Morris, shouting over the radio to see who could say it first.
The needle is quick. Dilys grips the edge of the chair and counts under her breath, and you realise she is counting the peaks, not the pain. When Fenn wipes the ink away, the little heart sits neatly on the first beat, exactly where she asked for it, and the word runs off the end of the line as if it has somewhere to be.
At dawn the rides come down in pieces and the convoy pulls out past the rec ground. Somewhere near the motorway slip road Dilys pulls her boots off and props her feet on the dashboard. In the wing mirror the big wheel turns one last slow circle, and you catch yourself keeping time with it, the same beat as the two of you.
