Matching infinity heart wrist tattoos
Lettering · Other · Black and grey · Photo
Two wrists show matching tattoos of an infinity symbol joined to a heart, with script wording running through the loops. The linework is solid black with some grey softness in the lettering, and there is no colour ink. The wrists are pressed together and fill the frame against a dark background.

Dear Tom,

The bus over Hadley Gap took an hour longer than the timetable promised, because the road doubles back on itself eleven times before it reaches the summit. Mrs Pryce at the tea hut counted the bends for me while I waited out a flock of sheep. She says the loops were cut by miners who never bothered to straighten anything, so every turn curls back toward where you started. I thought of you at once, and of the drawing you made on the back of an envelope the winter Dad was ill, the heart with the endless line running through it.
I've found the shop Mum mentioned, the one above the bakery in Lowmoor. The woman there keeps a ledger of every promise made in ink, and she showed me the page where you and I are written down, two names beside one shape. She said a pair of marks like ours only stay true if both people keep walking the same road, even when it turns them round.
I'm coming down on Thursday. If the weather holds I'll walk the last stretch on foot and count the bends myself, so I can tell you the number when I see you. Save me the chair by the stove.
Love, Nell
