Matching small star wrist tattoos on the beach
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
Two hands are clasped together against a blue sky and turquoise sea, with the sand visible at the bottom of the frame. Each wrist carries a small, simple five-pointed star outlined in thin black linework, with no shading or fill. The ink is black and grey, and the stars sit low on the wrists, making them the focal point against the skin tones and the blue background.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
The tide had taken the causeway twice that week, so Mrs Pell sent the two Harrow children across the sand at dusk with a loaf and a lantern for the widow at Ashcombe. They did not come back until the chapel bell had rung nine. When they did, Tom carried the lantern, unlit, and Dilys carried a story she would not stop telling.

Fog had come in off the bar like wet sheeting, she said, and the path had vanished under their boots. They walked in a slow ring among the samphire until Dilys remembered what their grandfather had taught them on the jetty: find the one point of light that does not wink, and keep it over your left shoulder. She made Tom look up, and there it was, a star holding still above the murk, its five points as neat as a schoolroom drawing.
The summer they turned ten, their grandfather had pricked the same shape onto each of their wrists with a sewing needle and stove soot, so they would always carry a chart with them. Tom laughed at her and said stars were for sailors, not for two children who had never been past the mill. But that night he pressed his thumb over his own mark while the lamp guttered, and he did not laugh again.
In the morning the tide had drawn a clean line of wet sand across the causeway. Pressed flat in it, where the last wave had left it, was a star of driftwood and sea-grass, its points still dark with water. Nobody on the coast ever learned who had laid it there. Dilys walked out to it at low water and stood inside its points until the sea came back over her ankles.
