Matching sunshine quote tattoos on the shoulders
Lettering · Shoulder · Black and grey · Photo
Two people stand side by side seen from behind, each with a black script tattoo on the shoulder blade area. The left reads You Are My Sunshine and the right reads My Only Sunshine, and each line is paired with a small sun drawn in fine rays. The linework is clean and dark with no shading or colour, set against a grey tarmac car park background.

Mind the step, that stone is older than the king who laid it, and it holds the rain like a grudge. Sit closer, you'll want all of this, for I'm not raising my voice for the back benches.

In the kingdom of Ormsby, the sun went behind Gallow Hill the winter the miller's wife sold it to the Tollwright for a barrel of salt. Nobody saw it go. They only noticed the candles burning down to stubs by noon. Two sisters, Ida and Maren, were sent up to the lamp-house to trim the wicks, and there they found a sheet of brass in the Tollwright's own stores, and a hammer nobody had thought to lock away.
Ida cut a half-circle and stamped it with the words her mother sang over the washing, 'You are my sunshine', and she pricked fine rays around the edge so it would catch whatever light was left in the world. Maren cut the other half and stamped her own line beside it, 'My only sunshine', because she had always been stubborn and would not be outdone by a song. When the Tollwright came to collect his sun, he took one half in his fist and laughed. What good is half a sun to a man who wants the whole valley?
The sisters climbed Gallow Hill that night with the other half tucked inside Ida's coat. They laid both pieces on the wall at the crest, edges touching, and the moon came up thin and sulky over the ridge. Where the two halves met, a little warmth rose off the brass, and the first light of morning ran down the slope, found the lamp-house door, and then spread over the whole of Ormsby. The Tollwright kept his half in a drawer, and I'm told it's there still, as cold as a spoon.
