Mickey and Minnie heads with flowers on a forearm

Forearm · Colour · Photo

Outlined Mickey and Minnie Mouse head designs are arranged along the inner forearm, alongside small flowers, stars and a flowing teal and purple ribbon. The black outlines are bold and clean, with the flowers and bows filled in with pink, red, purple, blue and yellow. The swirl and motifs spiral diagonally across the arm, with the largest character outlines near the top and smaller ones trailing down toward the wrist.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

Sit down, sit, the bench is only cold on the left side. No, you can't cross yet, the gate man is still finishing his dinner, and a story passes the time better than a queue. Hold still while I tell it. The sky road came down over the hills the year the river froze, and it ran straight across the frontier like a ribbon dropped by a careless girl.

Two mice lived at the end of it. One had ears as round as coins and a bold black face, and the other wore a red bow with a yellow flower tucked behind it. They kept a shop of little lights in a tin hut beside the wire. Every night the stars slid down the ribbon to be wound onto spools, and every morning the customs men counted them and found one short. Purple flowers grew wherever a star had dropped. Blue ones grew too, and the soldiers picked those to take home to their wives.

The officers came for the mice one dark morning with lamps and a sheaf of papers. The one in the bow simply gathered the ribbon in both hands, looped it three times round her wrist and walked it down the hill to the far side, leaving the stars scattered on the fence like sparks. The big one stood at the gate with his hat in his hands and told them the road belonged to nobody. It was the only lie he ever told, and the officers believed it, because it was so plainly foolish.

So when the gate man finally lifts the bar for you, look down at your sleeve. You'll see the ribbon still, curling down toward your wrist, going wherever it likes. Now mind the step, the stars are slippery in the frost, and the gate man is coming out to see what all the chatter is about.
