N7 logo torn through skin on chest

Realism · Chest · Mixed · Photo

The tattoo shows the stylised N7 logo in metallic silver lettering, set on a black halftone-dotted background with a red triangle to the right. Ragged black edges and shaded skin folds frame the design, giving the effect of skin peeling back to reveal it. Ink is mostly black and grey with a small amount of red, and the photo is framed closely on the upper chest.

Sit nearer, the peat is damp and I'll not raise my voice for the gulls. You want to know how the Seventh Boat got its name. Well. Tomas Ferrier had a mark stamped on every hull plate his father forged: a silver letter and a number set on black ground, dotted like a sea in the rain, with a red triangle at the side for the boat that never came home.

The autumn the Halvard came in on the ebb with her side ripped open, nobody on Skerra thought she'd see the morning. The sea had peeled her plates back like bark. Under the rust, though, the old stamp showed as clear as the day it was struck, and Tomas went down with a lamp and a tallow pot to scrape it. He said the metal was warm. He said it hummed like a kettle a moment before it boils.

Nobody believed him until the Halvard's crew began to dream of the same thing: a dark coast, a seventh light, a voice asking them to count their names. Tomas counted with them. Seven names, seven nights. On the seventh morning the triangle on the plate had gone red as a fresh cut, and the Halvard floated off the rocks by herself.

So if you go down to the slip tomorrow, mind where you step. Hold the plate by its edges, and never tell the sea how many names you know.
