Outline cat and hexagons on a forearm
Fine line · Forearm · Mixed · Photo
A leaping cat is drawn in a single dark blue-black outline across the inner forearm, with a second, offset red outline of the same cat overlapping it. Clusters of hexagons in dark ink and red extend from the cat's tail towards the upper arm, with some shapes overlapping. The thin, unshaded linework and the plain skin background give the design a clean, graphic look.

Dear Priya,

I know you will not forgive me for skipping the reunion, so I am writing instead, which is what we always did when we were in trouble. The hall smelled of floor polish and boiled cabbage the last time I was there, and Mr Okonedo still stands by the urn telling anyone who will listen that the lab benches were condemned in 1998. I would rather be here, with the kettle and the cat.
The cat is the reason for this letter. Biscuit came in through the sash window on Tuesday with a hexagonal tile from the old chemistry room stuck to one paw, the blue one with the chip out of its corner. I have no idea where she found it. She leapt straight across the kitchen table as if she were chasing something only she could see, and for one second there were two of her, the grey one and a red one that trailed behind like a reflection that had not been told to keep up.
Do you remember Mr Hallam's bubble models? Six plastic balls clicked together into rings, and we were told that carbon liked to make hexagons because it was lazy. I have been lying awake trying to work out whether that is the same as being stubborn. Anyway, I have followed the tile's trail along the back wall and found eleven more, each one a little warmer than the last, stacked behind the boiler as if someone was building a staircase.
Come and see it before the council sends someone round. Bring the photograph from Year Ten, the one where we both pretended to be bored. I will leave the back door open.
Love, Hannah
