Pair of angel wings on the forearms
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
Two matching angel wings are tattooed side by side on the inner forearms, close to the wrists. Both designs use thin, single-line outlines with feather detail drawn in small curved strokes, and no shading is visible. The ink appears pale white or light against the skin, with no black or coloured ink, and the wings are centred on each arm against a plain background.

The chalk had worn to a stub by the time the lamp-room bell rang for the second shift, so Ada Pryce licked her thumb and worked the last of it into a paste on the windowsill. Her brother Tom held out his left arm without being asked. He had been doing that since they were children, ever since the winter the pit cage stuck at the top shaft and she sat on the step beside the winding house, singing the hymns their mam used to hum.

She drew the first wing from the wrist upward, the way she had seen the old fitter mark a seam on a sheet of tin: one long line, then the feathers cut in short curved strokes, each lifting away from the last. Tom watched the paste dry pale on his skin and said it looked like something a gull had dropped. She told him gulls didn't have wings that fine. He said that was the trouble with gulls. The second wing took longer, because her hand kept wanting to press down and she kept having to lift it away.
The shift horn sounded at six. Tom pulled his sleeve over the wings and walked up the lane with the other men, their lamps swinging in the dusk like a line of low stars. Ada stayed at the window until the last light reached the gate. Then she scrubbed the sill clean with her apron and went back to fill the paraffin tins, counting them twice, the way he had asked her to.
On Friday the paste had washed away in the tin bath, but the wings had not entirely gone. When he came up the lane that night, grey to the eyebrows, he held his wrists up to the kitchen lamp and she saw two faint lines beneath the dust, as if the feathers had been drawn on the inside of the skin and only waited for the right light to show.
