Pin-up cook at a stove on upper arm
Neo-trad · Upper arm · Colour · Photo
A pin-up woman in a red polka dot dress, white apron, red headscarf and red heels stands at a stove, stirring a pot as steam rises. A sunburst or clock-like outline sits to the upper right, and fine dark outlines define the figure and stove. The design is filled with red, skin tones and light shading, and it wraps around the upper arm.

She had not wanted the red dress out of the trunk. It had been bought for a dance in Hereford years before the war and had not been worn since the wedding, but the apron that went with it had a row of ruffles along the hem that she had sewn herself, and when the steam came up off the pan and caught the back of her neck it made her think of the dance floor and how she had laughed until the band packed up.
"You look like something off a biscuit tin," said Frank from the doorway, turning his cap in his hands.
"Then you'd better not come near the plums," she said. He grinned, which he did so seldom that she turned back to the pan to keep her face straight.
By the time the first van rattled into the yard the sun had cleared the hedge and was coming through the kitchen window in a hard white disc, throwing the shadow of the wall clock across the flagstones. Nell lifted the spoon, watched the jam sheet off it in one slow ribbon, and thought that for once the day was starting exactly on time.
