Pink moon tattoo on the chest
Realism · Chest · Mixed · Photo
A full moon is tattooed on the upper chest, shown in soft pinks, reds and oranges with dark grey and black patches for the craters and shadowed areas. The shading blends smoothly across the circular form to suggest volume and texture. The moon sits slightly off centre on the skin, with the open collar of a white shirt and a fine chain necklace framing it.

Sit closer, the fire only warms the front of you. Leave the lamp where it is. The moon you can see over the wire tonight is the same one that hung above Vesna's mother's village the night the bridge guards took the cart. It was a harvest moon, low and rusty, the colour of clay at the bottom of the river. Everyone at the crossing swore afterwards that it had come down to look at them.

Vesna was seventeen and carrying her grandfather's papers folded inside a tin of barley sugar. The officer had a torch, a clipboard and a moustache that twitched whenever he counted. He wanted the stamp, the seal and the right spelling of a name that nobody in her family had ever spelled the same way twice. None of it was in order. So she did what her grandfather had taught her and looked up. The moon sat square on the border post, round and pink as a peach, with dark smudges where the old seas were supposed to have been, though nobody had seen water there in a thousand years.
The officer looked up too. He lowered his torch, then lowered his clipboard, and for a long moment the three of them stood under the same bright face. He muttered something about the moon being out of season, stamped the paper without reading it, and waved the cart through. Vesna never found out whether he had simply been dazzled or whether the moon had asked him politely.
She kept the tin all her life. On nights when the moon is full, she says, the lid is warm to the touch, and if you hold it up to the window the barley sugar still smells of the far bank.
