Pipe tattoo across the lower back
Back · Mixed · Photo
A close photograph of a tattoo on the lower back depicting a tubular, pipe-like object with bent sections and pink-toned joints. The linework is bold and the shading uses soft grey and light blue tones to give the object a metallic, rounded look. The tattoo fills the centre of the frame, with the wearer's hands holding down the waistband of dark jeans on either side.

Dear Terry,

Saw your name on the reunion list again and thought I'd put pen to paper rather than ring, because you always hated the phone. Do you remember the Ashworth house on Chapel Row, the one with the lead drain that wouldn't sit straight? Old Mr Ashworth swore a dog had bent it. You and I spent a whole Saturday under those floorboards with a bar and a bucket, and you said the bend was too neat for a dog, and I told you to stop being soft.
Well, I went back last spring. The new owners rang because the kitchen was sweating and the bathroom floor had gone spongy in one corner. I pulled up the boards and found the pipe still there, bent in the same three places, the joints gone the colour of old pennies. Someone had wrapped a strip of cloth round the second bend and tied it with garden string. Underneath, in carpenter's pencil, was a date from 1958 and the initials T.H. I have no idea who T.H. was.
I didn't tell the new people. I cut out the bad section, fitted a fresh length, and left the cloth where it was. Your name kept coming into my head while I worked, probably because you'd have wanted a proper look at that bend. Come to the reunion and bring your good spirit level. I'll show you where the cloth is, and you can tell me who T.H. was, because I've decided you're the only one who'd know.
Yours, Dave
