Open zipper tattoo on lower abdomen

Realism · Other · Black and grey · Photo

The tattoo shows a zipper that is open at the bottom and splits into two arms, forming a Y shape, with the metal pull at the centre. The teeth and pull are rendered with fine shading and highlights to give a three-dimensional, metallic look. The design is almost entirely grey and black, with only small touches of colour along the edges, and it sits on skin above the waistband of blue denim.

She eased it tooth by tooth, breathing through her nose, until the metal gave with a small, clean click.

The sacks slid free onto the bench, and the window had turned from black to the colour of dishwater. Ibrahim finally looked over. "Two arms," he said, "as if it couldn't decide which way to go."

Dorota lifted the first sack and tipped it into the mixer. "It goes both ways," she said. "That's why he bought it."
