Realistic moon on a forearm
Realism · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A full moon with detailed craters and dark maria is tattooed on the outer forearm. The shading is soft and greyscale, with smooth gradients giving the sphere a rounded, three-dimensional look. The circular design sits centrally on bare skin, with a pale cream textile and rolled light-blue denim sleeve filling the background.

Dear Tom,

The moon came up over the pit head last night so bright that Mrs Hollis swore someone had left the lamp room lit. I stood on the back step with the kettle going cold behind me and found the craters you showed me on the chart at the Institute, the big dark patches you insisted were seas even though there is no water in them. Maria, you called them. I still think that is a lovely word for a place with nothing to drink.
Your grandad's shift has moved to the north face, so he will not be home for tea. He asked me to tell you the seam is running thick and the roof is holding, which is what he always says. He also asked whether you have been feeding the rabbit. I said you had not, and he laughed the way he does when he is pretending the mine is only a long walk up the hill.
The tin lantern you made from the peach tin has gone missing from the shed. I suspect the Pritchard boys, who were seen carrying something shiny towards their bonfire on Saturday. If you find them, tell them the moon is on loan and they owe it back with a better face than the one they wore at the chapel fête.
Mind the slag heap on the way to the bridge, and do not go looking for the moon in daylight, it will only make you cross. I have left the porch light on.
Love, Nan
