Realistic wolf and roses on thigh
Realism · Thigh · Black and grey · Photo
A detailed wolf head faces forward with pale blue-grey eyes and a dark nose, framed by two shaded roses and sprigs of leaves below and to the side. The fur and rose petals are built from fine, smooth shading with strong contrast between the darkest blacks and soft grey highlights. The design is shown in black and grey on a leg, filling most of the frame.

The wolf is back at the fence before the shift bell has finished ringing. You see it from the hut window, grey as wet slate, standing on the far side of the wire where the rosebushes grow wild along the old customs road. Nobody has tended those roses since the crossing was moved forty kilometres north, but they still flower in June, heavy and pale, and the wolf seems to think they belong to it.

Your sergeant says it is just a wolf. He says it has been coming for years, that it takes nothing but scraps from the bins behind the duty room, and that you should stop writing it in the log. You write it in the log anyway. Under the entry for the 02:10 lorry from Vidin you put the time, the direction, and one word: watching. The driver, a man called Petrov with a chipped front tooth, laughs when he reads it over your shoulder.
On the last night before the post closes, the wolf does not come alone. Two roses have been pushed through the mesh at the base of the gate, stems snapped clean, as though someone on the other side wanted you to have them. You stand a long time with the torch in one hand and the flowers in the other. When you finally lift the latch, the wolf does not run. It looks at you the way the old clerk used to, patient and unimpressed, and then it turns and walks back into the dark toward the village where the lights have gone out.
