Rose and floral tattoos on arms at the beach
Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A woman in a fishnet bikini sits on sand with her face out of frame, showing tattooed arms. A large rose on the upper arm and a dense floral pattern on the opposite forearm are visible, with silver jewellery worn over the wrist and layered chains at the chest. The tattoos use black ink and grey shading against a soft, out-of-focus sea and beach background.

Mother would have had a fit, but the girls from the chandlery queued up regardless. Ada had a single bloom put on her wrist, black with grey shading where the petals fold, and she says the lines are so fine she can still feel the spray through them. He has a steady hand for a man who stirs his tea with the spoon left in the cup.
Last evening he drew one on me, though I told him I was too old for such nonsense. He stood by the dining room window with his lamp and talked about the roses his mother grew at the back of the chapel, how the ink has to be thinned with a drop of water or it sits heavy on the skin. I kept still and watched the light go copper on the water. When he finished he held up the hand mirror, and there was a rose like the one Father planted for you the year you married, only smaller, closed up tight as if it were waiting for the tide.
I haven't told him I'm sailing for Plymouth on Thursday to fetch Ada's boy home. He'll find the rent tin where I always keep it and the key under the bread crock. Keep the back bedroom aired for me, and send word if the rain lets up.
