Black and grey script tattoo on the ribs of a person in a black sports bra taking a mirror selfie in a tiled bathroom.

Script tattoo on the ribs

Lettering · Ribs · Black and grey · Photo

A mirror selfie shows a person in black sports bra and black shorts, with their face hidden behind a pink phone and a black cap. A small black script tattoo of several lines runs across the side of the ribcage below the bra. The ink is solid black with soft grey tones, and the tiled restroom wall and sink fill the background.

Mrs Pryce from Hollin Lane says you'd never have managed it, which I took as a compliment, though I don't think she meant it as one.

The top field went to the Ashworths in October, so the sheep are all on the lower land now and the hedges are down to bare sticks. Mam's handwriting is still on the kitchen calendar, every appointment for March crossed through in her looping pen, and I haven't had the heart to turn the page. The dog has taken to lying across the bottom step as if he's waiting for someone with a key.

I found your tin under the stairs on Sunday, the one with the lighthouse on the lid. Inside were all the postcards you sent from the coast, and the last one, which I'd never read properly because it was addressed to Mam. It has one line on the back, copied out in your careful capitals: IF THE WATER GETS CALM ENOUGH I WILL COME AND SEE THE LAMBS. I've put it on the mantelpiece next to the clock. Come when the water's calm, or don't, but write me the rest of it. I still don't know how the sentence ends.
