Script word 'spark' on side ribs
Lettering · Ribs · Black and grey · Photo
A black script tattoo spelling the word 'spark' runs diagonally across the side of the ribcage. The thin, flowing linework has a slightly uneven hand-drawn quality, with no shading and no colour. The close crop shows the lettering against pale skin, with a white sleeveless top at the left and a bare upper arm at the right.

His granddaughter Ada, eleven years old and nobody's fool, had been watching the gulls. She noticed the herring boats were tacking blind into the Sound, so she climbed the tower stair with a tin of lucifers and her grandfather's spectacles, which were no use to her at all. On the last match, the head caught with a sound like a small laugh. She cupped it in both hands, carried it to the wick, and the flame rose up as if it had only been waiting for someone to ask. Out past the rocks, a boat that had been circling in the dark turned for home. Tobias never once said thank you. He only said she had a steady wrist, and from him that was as good as a medal.
Now hush, the kettle's singing, and that's the end of it.
