Silver metallic temporary tattoos on arm and ankle
Geometric · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A close view of a bare arm and ankle, with silver metallic temporary tattoos in geometric patterns. The designs include rows of triangles, a dot band, interlinked infinity symbols, arrows and chevron bands, with a fine black script line on the upper arm. The warm skin tones and soft framing place the silver foil designs at the centre of the composition.

Dear Pip,

The big top has a hole in the roof now the size of a dinner plate, and Mr Vass says the insurers won't pay for a leak that has been dripping since the Coronation. We played Hexham on Friday to nineteen people and a dog. Still, the girls on the high wire keep asking for the silver, so I have spent three nights at the kitchen table with a tin of your grandad's old foil and a pot of gum arabic.
You'll laugh. I cut triangles for Marisol's wrists, a row of dots for the bareback girl, and a pair of looped figures for the catcher, because she says the net is the only thing in her life that never ends. The foil tears if you press too hard and won't stick if you don't, so I have been pressing and tearing for hours. The arrows go on the ankles so the flyers know which way to turn when the lamps go down.
Mr Vass came in last night to see how I was getting on. He stood over the table a long while, turning a chevron band under the bulb, and said it looked dug up rather than made. I took that as the kindest thing anyone has said to me since your father.
Tomorrow we pack the tent. If the lorry holds, I'll post you the last strip of foil, so you can stick it on your arm and see how it catches the light on the motorway. It won't last. Nothing we make does, but it shines while it's on.
Your loving Mam
