Two raised hands with black nail polish and rings show gold and silver metallic temporary tattoos of wave, chevron, dot and flower designs on the forearms and wrists.

Metallic temporary tattoo bands on wrists

Geometric · Forearm · Mixed · Photo

Two hands are raised against a plain white wall, with black nail polish and several rings on the fingers. The forearms and wrists carry metallic gold, silver and black temporary tattoo designs, including wave lines, zigzag chevrons, a dotted band, a flower and an eye-like motif. The soft, even lighting and neutral background keep the focus on the bright foil designs.

Dear Maud,

The crates came off the Sarah Jane on Tuesday, and I have never seen Father so quiet. Inside each one, under the packing straw, were sheets of tissue no bigger than a playing card, and on every sheet a row of gold and silver shapes. Wave lines that looked like the swell off Gurnard's Head. Little zigzags like the teeth of a saw. A band of black and gold dots that Mrs Penhallow says is the pattern from her grandmother's shawl. Someone in the Bristol office had written on the lid, Do not wet. Father said a sheet like that would never survive a Cornish morning, and he was right, but it was the eye that did for him.

It sat on a sheet by itself, a black almond with a gold lid and a pupil picked out in white. Father stuck one to the inside of the wheelhouse glass before he'd even finished unloading. Ned laughed and said the sea had no use for eyes, but Father only said the sea was watching regardless. Then the wind backed round and we took the whole fleet out past the Longships, and I thought of you, and how the foil caught the lamp.

Here is the odd part. We came back with more mackerel than anyone has landed since the war, and the eye was still there, unpeeled, shining against the wet glass. Ned has worn a gold wave on his wrist all week, pressed on with spit, and he swears by it. I told him it's only foil.

Still, I've kept one sheet back for you. Look for it in the parcel. Mind the zigzags, they cut.

Love, Jenny
