Skateboard bursting from a TV on a thigh
Traditional · Thigh · Mixed · Photo
A bold black outlined television with a cracked screen sits above the words GO OUTSIDE, and an orange skateboard bursts out through the screen with its wheels visible. Below, a coloured tattoo of a figure is partly visible, and a tattooed design runs down the outer thigh. The solid orange fill and flat black line work stand out against the pale skin, and the background is a blurred street with parked cars.

"Go outside, Ness. It's nearly May."
She didn't go. Not at first. The board had come from a jumble sale in Bexley for two pounds and a promise to sweep the church hall, and Tez had spent a month learning to kickflip it on the car park bins while she pretended not to care.
It was the Saturday the aerial finally died that she gave in. The picture went to snow, then to a single grey line, and she sat staring at the line until it dawned on her she could hear the gulls and the kids and the rattle of the bins outside, all of it louder than the telly had ever been. She got up, took the board from Tez without a word, and stepped through the open door into the street.
Behind her the box hummed on in the empty room, still hissing, and the crack in the glass caught the light from the window like a road going somewhere.
