Small paper plane on a wrist
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A small outline tattoo of a folded paper plane sits on the inner forearm near the wrist. The linework is thin and single weight in black ink, with the plane's folds shown as a few simple angled lines. The arm rests on a red blanket and a pink floral sheet, and the warm, slightly soft photo is framed tightly on the tattoo.

He had worked the early shift at Hollinbeck for nineteen years and had never once found a message in a paper plane. Gulls, yes. Chewing gum, certainly. Inside, in the same careful capitals: THE FLAT ROOF ABOVE THE GOODS SHED. BRING THE TORCH. I WILL WAIT UNTIL THE LAST TRAIN GOES THROUGH. Below that, a tiny drawing of the signal box with a line of dots running up to it like a path.
Dev looked up at the footbridge. Nobody was on it. The 7.12 was already grinding in from the north, its headlamp a small patient eye in the fog, and he realised he had about four minutes to decide whether a stranger's letter was his business. He folded the plane back along its old lines, tucked it into his high-vis pocket, and went to find the torch.
