Small sprig tattoo on the back of the neck
Fine line · Neck · Black and grey · Photo
A woman is photographed from behind, showing a small dark tattoo on the back of her neck. The design is a slender sprig with a few leaves and a small bloom, drawn in fine, delicate linework. The tattoo is in black ink against pale skin, set against her high bun, a sleeveless light sparkly dress and a softly blurred background.

She turned it over under the bulb hanging from the centre pole. Three leaves, one bloom no bigger than a button, and a stem so fine it barely held together. Her grandmother's hand, possibly. Nell had never been sure which version the family had agreed to tell.

She pinned the sprig inside the ledger, bloom facing up, and wrote beneath it in pencil: last season, still green. Then she walked out into the grey morning to tell the others the show was over, and found the grass already wet with dew on a field they would not be keeping.
