Small x and o tattoos on two wrists
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
Two pairs of hands rest on a white pillow, with the fingers interlocked and the inner wrists facing the camera. A small black letter x sits on one wrist and a small black letter o sits on the other, both rendered in thin, simple linework. The palette is limited to dark ink against skin and bedding, and the close framing keeps the two tattoos as the clear focus.

Dear Marguerite,

It is twenty past four and the oven is roaring like a bus going up the hill. You will say I should have written sooner. I have been busy learning to score a loaf properly, which is harder than it looks. Dev says I cut too deep and the bread needs room to breathe. He is right, but I am not telling him so.
Here is the thing I wanted to tell you. Since the new shelf went in, we have been marking the tins with chalk so nobody mixes up the sourdough and the rye. Dev makes a cross on the sourdough lids and I make a ring on the rye. Nobody else in the shop knows what it means. Mr Okafor from the post office asked whether we were keeping score. We said yes, and he bought two of each to be polite.
The truth is it started on a Tuesday when the flour delivery came up short and we were both too tired to argue about it. He drew an X on the sack, I drew an O on mine, and we played noughts and crosses across the proving baskets until the sky went grey over the car park. He won, of course. He always does, and I always let him, and that is how I know he loves me.
Dawn is coming up behind the bins now. I will leave the rest for the morning batch.
Love, Ro
