Black and grey traditional style tattoo of Snow White holding an apple, with a Fairest One of All banner, on the upper thigh.

Snow White with apple on thigh

Traditional · Thigh · Black and grey · Photo

A black and grey tattoo shows a cartoon-style Snow White with her hair tied in a bow, holding a red apple up in one hand. Below her, a ribbon banner reads Fairest One of All in script lettering, and a pale rounded object sits beside her. Bold outlines and soft grey shading give the figure and banner dimension against the skin, and the photo is taken at an angle on a blurred studio background.

On Saturday a girl came up the cart steps with a black bow in her hair and a face as pale as a peeled egg. She asked for the apple. Nan asked her what she would give in exchange, and the girl said she had nothing, she only wanted to know which of the women in the fair was the fairest. Nan laughed so hard she had to hold the cart rail. She pointed at the banner and said the painter could answer that, since he had done the lettering.

Tomas looked at the ribbon and the rounded white shape beside the woman's shoulder, the one he had shaded so carefully that it seemed to hold its own breath. He said the fairest was whoever was still laughing at the end of the day. The girl frowned, took the apple anyway, and walked off towards the big wheel. Nan wiped her hands on her apron and handed Tomas the next apple, which was already bruised.
