Solar system planets on a calf

Realism · Calf · Colour · Photo

The tattoo shows a row of planets across the lower leg, including a ringed planet, a banded orange-brown planet, a small blue-green sphere and a larger orange one, set against a dark blue and purple nebula with scattered stars. The planets are rendered with soft shading and fine surface detail, while the background blends into smooth, misty gradients. The leg is photographed outdoors in daylight on green grass, with another person's feet in sandals visible at the edge of the frame.

Sit closer, the fire's no use to you if you sit at the back. Now. When the snow came down on Corrie Dunn in the year the wells froze, there were nine carts on the pass and one boy driving the last of them. His name was Tobin Vell. He could not read a map, but he could read the sky, because his mother taught him that the sky never lies to a man who keeps his eyes open.

The road was gone. Snow lay over every cairn. The boy stopped the mule under a sky so thick with stars it looked like someone had spilled flour across black cloth, and there, low in the east, hung a pale lantern with a ring around its middle, tilted just so. Saturn, his mother called it, the gentle one that never hurries. Beneath it sat Jupiter, striped like a barley loaf, and when he looked from one to the other the path between them opened up like a crease in a blanket.

He walked the mule by those two lights for half the night. Then the cloud came over and the stars went out, all but a little blue one near the ridge, steady as a kitchen candle. Mars was the red coal above it, his mother had said, but that night it was the blue he trusted.

Tobin reached the inn at Hollin Shoulder with frostbite on two fingers and every cart behind him. The innkeeper asked how he'd found the road. The boy said the little blue light had brought him down, and the old man laughed into his beard and said, lad, that's only home. That's the one we're all standing on.
