Stag head tattoo on a forearm
Realism · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A stag's head faces forward, with wide antlers rising above it and ears extending to either side. The shading is soft and detailed, with darker lines on the antlers and fur and lighter grey on the face and muzzle. The tattoo fills the centre of the frame against pale skin, with blurred paving and a denim sleeve behind it.

You will remember what the king said at Midwinter. Whoever brings down the white-throated stag of Carrow Wood may name a bride of their choosing from the eastern provinces. Half the huntsmen in Vellmoor have gone out since, and every one has come back with mud to the knee and nothing else. Tobin Ashe lost two fingers to a frozen ford. Sister Maud says the animal is a messenger from the old forest gods. I say he is only very tired of being chased.
Yesterday I was sent to bring him in. I took my bow, then left it on the cart. He let me come within a spear's length, close enough to see the grey coming through the fur on his muzzle and the old scar above his left eye. His breath made clouds between us. He did not flinch. I found I had nothing to say to him, so I said nothing, and after a while he turned and walked back into the trees, unhurried, the way a man leaves a room when he has finished an argument.
I told the king the stag had escaped. He looked at me for a long time and then laughed, the first honest laugh I have heard from him in years. He has asked for a new bow, and I have given him one. Come home at spring, if you can. I think the woods are going to be very quiet this year, and I would like to hear you talk over the dinner table again. Your brother, Eddric.
