Colour traditional-style tattoo of a sugar skull Hello Kitty design surrounded by red roses, green leaves, a purple flower and spiderweb lines, on skin.

Sugar skull Hello Kitty with roses

Traditional · Other · Colour · Photo

The tattoo shows a Hello Kitty head outlined in heavy black lines and decorated with sugar skull motifs, including flower eyes, swirling scrolls and a small heart on the face. Spiderweb lines fan out behind the head, and red roses, a purple flower and green leaves frame the lower and right sides. Bold black outlines contrast with solid red, green, purple and yellow fills, and the composition is centred on the character with the foliage balanced around it.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

Sit down, sit, the four-fifteen is never before twenty past, you have my word on that. You want the story of the cat, then. Everyone who waits on this platform wants the cat, the white one with the bow and the painted face, who stepped off the Carlisle train on the first wet night of November carrying a basket of marigolds and no ticket at all.

Her name was Ottilie Marsh, or so she said, and she never once let anyone see her plain face, which she kept painted over in swirls and little hearts like a sugar bowl from a Sunday tea. The stationmaster, a man called Harold Dunn who had never been kind to a stray in his life, let her sit under the clock because she paid in stories. She would breathe on the waiting room window and draw lace across the glass, fine as a spider's work, and the frost would copy it from the inside.

Every evening she tied a black ribbon to the rail by platform two, then laid one red rose on the tracks for whoever had missed their train the year before. Harold grumbled about the paperwork, but the rain never once washed a rose off the line, and the signalman swore the trains slowed for them without anybody touching a brake.

On the last night of the month she set the basket down, took the bow from her head, and walked along the platform into the fog. The four-fifteen came through with its lamps lit. When Harold went to sweep up, he found the ribbon still tied, the marigolds bright, and a note in lace-thin handwriting saying the fare had been paid in full. Mind the step, it said, and nothing else.
