Sun and crescent moon wrist tattoos
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
Two matching tattoos sit side by side on the inner wrists, one showing a sun with rays and a face and the other a crescent moon with a face in profile. Both are drawn in thin black outline with no shading or fill, and the skin tone and white background keep the linework clear. The two designs are placed at a similar height on each arm, creating a paired composition.

Brother Anselm rang the bell at the top of each hour, and the sun came up over the far ridge, so the monks said, because he rang it. The old abbot never believed this and said so often, but he did not stop Anselm climbing the tower every morning with the rope burning his palms.

Across the valley, at the hermitage called Lowmere, lived a woman named Ysolde who kept the lamps. She could not see the monastery from her window, only the single pine that stood beside its gate. Each evening she lit a lantern and sent it up the path on the back of a grey goat, and each morning the goat came down with a loaf and a folded note tucked into its collar.
For thirty winters the notes said the same things: the snow was deep, the pine had lost a limb, the abbot's cough was worse. Then one autumn the notes stopped, and the goat came down alone, carrying only Anselm's cloak in its mouth.
Anselm went up the path himself and found Ysolde sitting in her doorway with an unlit lamp in her lap. "The sun does not need your bell," she said. "It needs someone to look up at it. I have been watching the moon all this time, and it never once looked back at me."
He stayed. In the mornings he rang the bell, and at dusk she lit the lamp, and between them they kept the hours turning over the valley. Neither of them ever again asked whose light was the true one.
