TARDIS with watercolour splashes and quote on thigh
Lettering · Thigh · Mixed · Photo
A black outline of a TARDIS police box sits on the thigh, with its windows partly filled in pale blue and lilac. Blue, purple and pink watercolour splashes spread behind and around the box, and the phrase Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey is written in bold black brush-style lettering beneath it. The composition is centred on the tattoo, with the skin filling most of the frame.

You are hauling the last of the nets at Skerrow when the fog lifts off the harbour wall and there it is: a blue police box standing where the fish market should be, its lamp lit at four in the morning. Old Tully Brack, who has skippered the Good Intent since before you were born, doesn't look up from his knots. "Don't go near it. It'll have you back in the wrong decade."

You go near it anyway. The door is cold, and the inside is far bigger than the lamp suggests, with a grey console humming like a kettle about to boil. Tully's late wife Maud used to say the box turned up whenever the tide ran wrong, and that nobody should trust anything that claimed to be exact about time. Tully always laughed at that. The sea, he'd say, is the only honest clock going, and the fish are always exactly where the sums say they'll be, give or take a century.
You find a brass lever and pull it, and the floor tilts like a deck in a swell. When the door swings open again, the harbour is smeared in watercolour: lilac fog, blue dawn, pink light spilling off the wet slipway. The Good Intent is tied up with a name you don't recognise, and a man in a yellow oilskin is shouting Tully's name at a boy who looks suspiciously like you.
You look down at the deck. There's a net of silver mackerel at your feet, and you have no memory of catching a single one. Wibbly wobbly, Tully would have said, timey wimey, lass. Just get the nets in before the tide turns.
