Four arms show temporary tattoos: a black shutter aperture on a forearm, a teal digital watch on a wrist, the word PLAY HARD across the knuckles, and a rainbow colour wheel on a hand.

Temporary tattoos of a shutter, watch and colour wheel

Lettering · Forearm · Mixed · Photo

Several people's arms and hands are shown together, carrying temporary tattoo designs. A black shutter aperture sits on one forearm, a teal digital watch on another wrist, and the letters PLAY HARD are spread across the knuckles of two closed fists. A multicoloured colour wheel covers the back of a hand, and a small swatch labelled with a product name sits on a forearm. The mix of solid black linework, flat colour and blended colour gives the composition a playful, graphic feel against a neutral background.

Dear Marnie,

The ferry man has finally stopped asking for the deposit on the darkroom key, so I am writing this on the back of his tide table while the gulls argue over the chip papers on the quay. You will not believe what Teddy did on Thursday. He bet the harbourmaster's boy a week of crab pots that he could get the chandlery's shutter open in one go, then had PLAY HARD inked across his knuckles by the man who mends the sails. It is the most reckless thing I have ever seen a grown fisherman do.

He lost the bet, obviously. The shutter is still jammed halfway, and the old digital watch he wears now reads 00:00 in a blinking teal face that he swears is the only honest clock on Harbour Row. Ada says it stops every time someone lies about the weather. I have been keeping a tally. It has blinked eleven times since Monday, and Teddy has been wrong about the wind every single time.

Then there was the colour business. Ada wanted to match the lifeboat's blue for the new mural, so she took a paint chip from the shop and held it up against the sea. Fog rolled in and for two days we could not tell green from grey. She spun a wheel of coloured card on the lantern room wall until the light looked like a bruise healing, then laughed so hard she dropped the chip into the bilge.

Last night the fog lifted and the tank gave us one clean print: the harbour at dusk, every boat lit, the shutter caught wide open and Teddy's watch on the quay reading the right time for once. Come down before the spring tide, bring the good light meter, and keep Teddy away from the ink.

Love, Frankie
