Two Hello Kitty tattoos on the lower legs
Calf · Mixed · Photo
Two cartoon Hello Kitty character tattoos sit on the back of the lower legs, one on the calf and one just above the ankle. Both use bold black outlines with flat fills in red, pink, white and teal, with the left figure wearing a red flower in its head and the right figure wearing a teal bow. The photograph is taken from behind on a grey asphalt surface, with pink satin heels with black ruffled trim in the foreground.

Dear Marjorie,

The snow came in on Tuesday and hasn't had the decency to leave. Dad says the lane will be shut until Easter, so the milk goes out on the back of the Land Rover now, and the two white cats have taken over the feed room as if they paid the rent. You'll remember Mrs Pargeter's strays. Both turned up in November, one with a red silk flower tucked behind her left ear, the other with a teal bow the size of a biscuit. Neither has much of a mouth, which Dad says is why they never argue.
They stalk the hay bales like tiny magistrates. The one with the flower, whom I've named Pip, sits on the feed sacks and judges everybody who walks past. The one with the bow goes straight for the boot room. Last Thursday she dragged a tin of boiled sweets out of the pantry and left the lid chewed to ribbons on the step. Pip watched her do it and didn't lift a paw.
Last night the power dipped and the whole barn went black. I went out with the torch expecting to find them in a heap, but they were sitting side by side on the bottom rung of the loft ladder, looking up into the dark. Neither moved when I shone the beam on them. I left a saucer of the cream from the top of the churn and went back to bed.
This morning the saucer was empty and both of them were asleep in the old pram, the bow cat curled round the flower cat like a pair of brackets. I haven't the heart to tell Dad they've moved in for good. Write soon, and tell me whether the Ridgeways have finally sold that dreadful dog.
Yours in frostbite, Nell
