Two pixel characters on an ankle

Ankle · Mixed · Photo

A small tattoo of two pixel-art characters sits on the ankle, with the foot pressed flat against a wooden floor. The figures use blocky, stepped pixels with dark outlines, and one has red tones while the other has yellow and green. The image is warmly lit with a soft, slightly faded finish, and the tattoo is the clear focal point.

Dear Tom, the caterers have just discovered that the cake stand is four inches too short for the top tier, and I have decided to let them sort it out without me. I am sat on the back step with the old handheld you swore you'd fix in 2003, the one with the cracked hinge, and it still lights up when I press the button on the side as if nothing has happened in twenty years.

You always took the little red fellow with the cap, the one who jumped a fraction too early and kept landing in the pits. I took the green creature with the yellow belly, who waited at the bottom of every staircase until you caught up. Dad said we had to take turns on the hard levels, and we never once did. We just argued until the batteries gave out.

Last night I found the save file still sitting there, from the summer before Gran went into the home. Both of them had reached the castle at the end of the same game, and someone, presumably you, had paused it with the red one standing on the final step and the green one stuck halfway up, not moving. I sat on the bed for an hour trying to decide who had been waiting for whom.

So tomorrow I am walking up the aisle with the green one's stubbornness and the red one's terrible timing, and I need you at the front holding the rings. Please keep them in your pocket and not on the stairs this time. I'll be the one at the bottom, waiting, as usual.
