White mandala chest and chevron hand tattoos
Geometric · Chest · Black and grey · Photo
A woman in a white V-neck top shows a symmetrical white mandala design on her upper chest, built from a central circle, four leaf-like petals and curved outer scallops. Small white chevron and arrow marks run across her fingers and the backs of her hands, and she wears several silver rings and white nail polish. The markings are white on brown skin against a white lace background, so the contrast is soft and the linework reads as fine and precise.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
The frost had come in overnight and laid a lace across the kitchen window, white rounds of it spreading from every corner as if someone had worked it with a fine hook. I was scraping at one petal with my thumbnail when Dad came in stamping snow off his boots, and he said I'd only let the cold in if I kept at it.

Outside, the field behind the byre was grey and flat as a plate. Geese came over low in a long chevron, calling to each other, and Dad stopped in the doorway to count them the way he counted ewes. "They never once get lost," he said. "Every year they go south, and every year they go in that shape, like somebody's drawn the road on the sky for them." Gran used to say the same about her crochet, that the pattern was already in the thread and you only had to follow it. Her tablecloth still lies folded in the bottom drawer, its rounds gone the colour of weak tea.
He didn't say it straight out. He said the bank had written again, that the lower field would go in spring, and that the buyers wanted the barn down. I breathed on the glass until the frost melted into a clear ring, then drew a leaf inside it, four petals around a centre dot, the way Gran drew them on the back of feed receipts. Dad watched me for a long time. Then he took the cloth from the drawer, shook it out over the table, and said we'd better find the pins.
By dusk the frost had closed over my scratches and the ring was gone. The geese had gone too, somewhere past the hills, still holding their arrow together. Next morning the window was covered in the same white pattern, whole and unbroken, as if nothing had been taken off it at all.
