Crossed arrows and feathers on the back of a hand
Fine line · Hand · Black and grey · Photo
A hand rests on a white fur surface, showing a fine line tattoo of two crossed arrows with feather fletching on the back of the hand, with a smaller arrow near the knuckles. The linework is thin and even, rendered in light grey or silver ink with no shading. The hand is worn with several silver rings set with white and dark stones, plus stacked silver cuff bracelets on the wrist, and the soft, pale background keeps the focus on the design.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
Hester had counted the feathers twice before the snow shut the pass, and twice more once the stranger stamped in from the yard with a bow case over one shoulder and frost in his eyebrows. Her father had taught her to fletch in the barn behind the inn, splitting goose quills and binding them with waxed thread, and she could spot a crooked vane from the far side of a room.

He paid for three nights in silver coins worn smooth at the edges and asked for nothing but the hearth and a bath of hot water. The snow kept him. On the second evening he laid two arrows on the scrubbed table, crossed like knitting needles set aside, and asked whether she could match the fletching on a third, a short one, no longer than his palm.
She turned the shafts to the lamp. The feathers were grey goose, cut in the narrow swept shape her father had favoured, and the binding at the nock was a double wrap he swore nobody else bothered with. She had never seen these arrows, yet they had come from her kitchen, or from the barn that now held only dust and a broken stool. "Where did you get these?" she asked. "From a woman who said her husband made them, and that you'd know the knot." He looked at the fire rather than at her. "She sent me up here to ask."
Hester took a feather from the jar and began to bind the third shaft. Outside, the wind dropped all at once, and the silence was so complete she could hear the thread tighten under her thumb.
