With you, I am home lettering design
Lettering · Black and grey · Flash
Two lines of handwritten black script read "with you," and "I am home." on a cream background with a soft vignette. The strokes are thin and fluid, with a long looping flourish beneath the first line that sweeps under the words. Only black ink appears, and the lettering fills most of the frame.

The kettle has gone cold twice since I started this, so forgive the blots. Mrs Pryce from the top farm came down with a basket of eggs and asked whether you would be back for the lambing. The roof over the back bedroom has let in water again. I have set the good pan under the drip and moved the blanket box out of the way. Every evening at six I walk down to the stile, as you asked me to, and the lane stays empty until the dark comes down over the wall. I have stopped pretending I do not count the cups on the dresser.
Yesterday I took the long way round by the beeches, where we used to stop and argue about whether the path was a path at all. The bracken is up to my knee now. In the hollow of the third tree I found your old clasp knife wrapped in oilcloth, which makes no sense unless you left it there on purpose, so I would have something of yours to hold while you were gone. It is on the table beside this letter, and I keep looking at it.
I am not going to tell you to come home before the spring fair. I know what the wages are worth and what the bank wants. Only write, or send word with the carter, so I know which road to watch. The house leaks and the chairs need mending, but it is yours to walk into when you come up the lane. With you, I am home, and the rest is only roof and weather.
