Handwritten i love you script design
Fine line · Black and grey · Flash
The image shows the words i love you written in joined, cursive handwriting with a full stop after you. A long looping flourish sweeps beneath the lettering, and the design is drawn in thin, even black linework. It is set on a plain white background with the text centred and no shading or colour.

Gather round, gather in, and mind the lamp, because this one is about a sign-writer named Ezra Pim, who could paint a fat gold name on a caravan door in the time it took the kettle to sing. He travelled with Hollis and Sons' Fair for thirty summers, and in all that time he never once painted a word he did not mean.

One August, a girl came to the coconut shy with a crumpled half-sheet of paper and asked him to put three words on the side of the ferris car. Ezra squinted at her scrawl. It was a message for a lad called Tom, who worked the generator and had been too shy to say anything plainly in thirty-one weeks of waving at her across the dodgems. Ezra told her gold was for the name of the fair, not for hearts. So he took his finest sable brush, dipped it in black ink, and wrote the words small and joined up, like a letter from a good hand.
I love you, it read, and then a full stop, firm as a fence post. He gave the flourish beneath it one long curl, so it would look like it was going somewhere.
Tom saw it at dawn when he came to check the cables. The story goes he stood there so long the tea went cold in his tin. The girl married him at the end of that season, and the little black words stayed on that ferris car until the fair finally broke up for good. Ezra always said the best sign he ever wrote was the one nobody paid him for.
