Angel and devil wings on upper back
Back · Black and grey · Photo
A pair of mirrored wings sits across the upper back: a feathered angel wing with a small halo above it on the left, and a spiked devil wing ending in an arrow-tipped tail on the right. Bold black outlines are combined with grey shading to give the feathers and membrane depth. The tattoo is entirely in black and grey tones against the skin.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
The fair came over the downs at Michaelmas with two caravans, a steam organ and a wooden horse with one glass eye. Mrs Pell's twins, Jem and Tom, were given the job of carrying the banner at the head of the harvest walk, and their mother had stitched each of them a pair of wings from old sacking and jackdaw feathers. Jem's were soft and tapering, with a wire halo bent above one shoulder. Tom's were ragged at the edges, spiked like a bramble, and ended in a barbed tail that dragged in the dust. Nobody in the village thought much of it. Children were always being told to pick a side.

Then Mr Ashdown, who ran the Wheel, came to the lane gate each evening and asked which boy would be riding up with him. He never gave a name. He only said the wings looked well on whoever wore them, and he paid in silver for the first turn.
On the last night, the fair struck its tents in the rain. Mrs Pell found the wings hung on a nail in the empty wagon, both pairs, folded neat as letters. Jem's feathers had gone grey at the tips. Tom's were smooth and gleaming, and the barbed tail ended in an arrow point that caught the lamplight. The halo wire lay in the straw, bent into a point at one end, as if something had pressed it down to see what it would do.
