BB-8 droid with banner on a calf
Traditional · Calf · Colour · Photo
A colour tattoo of the BB-8 droid, shown in white, grey and orange with a small orange and grey detail, sitting above a blue and orange ribbon banner with black lettering. Bold black outlines, solid fills and soft shading give it a classic flash look, and the design is shown on a lower leg against a grey pavement.

The bells at Hollin Cross had not rung for a wedding in forty years, not since the ford flooded and the ferryman's chain went under with him. Then something came rolling up the lane from the water meadow, round as a churn and grey as wet stone, with a domed head that turned to look at each of them in turn. A blue ribbon flapped from its side, and the children read the words painted on it aloud, slowly, because nobody had told them rolling was anything to be proud of. It stopped at Ada's feet and let a chain slide out of its belly. The chain was rusted orange, and at the end of it hung a small weight shaped like a bell.
Ada knew the chain. Her grandmother had hung it on the ford post to mark where the water ran deep, and it had vanished the spring the ferryman drowned. The machine had carried it up from the riverbed a little at a time, every night for a month, and had waited for a bride who would not be frightened of it. She lifted the weight. It rang, clear and low, and the water in the meadow went quiet.
They married at dusk with the chain looped twice around their wrists. The machine rolled behind the procession all the way home and sat at the gate until morning, humming to itself. Nobody asked it to leave, and by the next wedding it had become the one thing in Hollin that everyone agreed to watch for.
