Beauty and the Beast stained glass thigh tattoos

Thigh · Colour · Photo

Two thigh tattoos in ornate oval frames imitate stained glass, with bold dark outlines and coloured panels. The left piece shows a red rose beside Belle in a yellow gown dancing with the Beast, while the right shows a purple rose above a castle under a cloudy sky. Vivid reds, yellows, blues and greens dominate, and a hand rests at the top left of the frame.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

The rain has got under the canvas again, and the glass-painter's booth smells of linseed oil and wet sawdust. You are sixteen and the only one awake, lead cames balanced across your knees, because old Tobias Vane has dozed off with his spectacles still on, and you were told never to touch the rose panel until he wakes.

You touch it anyway. It is a window the size of a cartwheel, carried through eleven counties in a crate lined with straw. Each petal is cut from red glass, the leading black as stovepipe. Tobias calls it the Bargain Window. A dancer in a yellow gown turns in a ballroom of blue panes, and across from her a shaggy, heavy-shouldered figure holds out a hand as if he has never once expected it to be taken. Tobias says a lord who kept a rose under glass once sold the fair his castle for a penny and a promise, and the castle drifted up into its own clouds, and the fair has been following it ever since.

By the third hour you have fitted the last purple rose into its frame, the oval edged with gilt that never quite matches the glass. Your fingers ache. The lamp gutters, and the window throws its colours across the sawdust, and in the blue pane near the top a tower stands small and sharp against a sky the rain has not reached.

At dawn the wagons creak out onto the wet road. You look back once and see the window propped in the van's rear window, catching the first sun. The tower is still there. So, you notice, is the tiny light on the top floor, burning like someone waiting for a dance.
