Blue flower and script letter on a wrist
Botanical · Forearm · Mixed · Photo
A small tattoo of a five-petalled blue flower with an orange centre sits beside a black cursive letter on the wrist. The petals use soft blue shading with lighter highlights, while the letter is drawn in solid black linework. The photograph is taken from above on a plain white background, with the subject centred and in focus.

Dear Hester,

The bell for Sext had only just stopped when I found Brother Dunstan's box under the potting bench, the one with the cracked lid and your name still on the label in his square hand. You will laugh, but it was full of seed packets, each one labelled in pencil, and the last said forget-me-not, Myosotis, sown by the wall where the water butt leaks. He never told me what the letter on the packet was for. I supposed it was a saint's initial, or the Abbess's.
Prior Aldous says the bed by the infirmary wall must be dug over before the visitors come in May, and I said I would do it myself. So this morning I knelt in the wet with a hand fork and turned up a crumb of blue, pale as a sky over Helvellyn, and beneath it a little tin disc stamped with a single capital D. Someone had pressed it into the soil years ago so the rain could not wash it away.
I have hung the disc on the nail by the door, next to the rosary you gave me, and I have left the bed unturned. Brother Dunstan always said a garden is a list of things you promised to remember. I will remember this one, and Aldous can grumble at the visitors' muddy boots instead.
