Blue Mini car on forearm
Realism · Forearm · Colour · Photo
A detailed tattoo of a blue Mini car in three-quarter front view, with white roof and bonnet stripes, chrome grille, round headlamps and spotlights, and alloy wheels. The shading gives the bodywork and glass a glossy, photographic finish against the pale skin. The car fills most of the frame, with a faint framed wall display blurred in the background.

Dear Tom,

The Mini started on the fourth go this morning, which Dad would have called a miracle and then sworn at for taking so long. I've got it out of the barn now, the blue one with the white stripes running over the roof, and I've been letting it tick over in the yard while the frost goes off the windscreen. The number plate is still the one he bought it with, PMJ 1968. I know you think it's daft to keep it, but the lads from the co-op keep asking whether it's for sale, and I keep giving them the same answer I gave at the funeral.
I drove it to Hallam's Corner yesterday to fetch the feed. Two miles of single track with the heater roaring and the spotlights swinging across the hedges, the way they used to when he took us to the coast. The back wheels slid once on the bend by the old pump house and I felt his hand on my knee, the way he always steadied me. Nobody else would have noticed. I was sure I'd end up in the ditch and I didn't, and I laughed out loud on my own in a cab full of sheep nuts.
The roof has a dent now that wasn't there before, from the hailstones in November. I've decided to leave it. Come up at New Year if you can get the time off. Bring the good jump leads and that flask you hate, and we'll see whether she goes for both of us.
Love, Jo
