Blue VW camper van on upper arm
Realism · Upper arm · Colour · Photo
A realistic tattoo of a vintage Volkswagen camper van in blue and cream, viewed from the front at an angle, with its windscreen, side windows, roof rack and VW logo rendered. Soft shading and highlights give the bodywork, chrome bumper and black tyres a three-dimensional finish, with small orange indicator accents. The van fills the centre of the frame against plain skin and a dark sleeve, with a blurred street sign behind.

The ferry ramp clanks down and the bus is the last thing off, its cream roof rattling like a tin lid as you ease it onto the slipway at Yarmouth. Gulls have already decided the sandwich on the passenger seat belongs to them. Your brother's text still glows on the dashboard: gate's padlocked, key under the blue pot.

The island road runs past salt marsh and a row of pink cottages with their shutters half closed. You drive with two fingers on the wheel, the way Dad taught you on the chalk track behind the chapel, letting the old engine hum its one patient note up the hills. Every few miles a hatchback sighs behind you, pulls out to overtake, then thinks better of it and settles back. You don't mind. This van was never built for hurrying.
At the top of the lane the gate is rusted to its post, and the blue pot is cracked and empty except for a bent nail and a snail. You stand in the wind turning the useless key over, and then you see it: the padlock hangs open on its chain, nothing locked at all. Your brother has always been better at leaving things unlatched than at keeping them.
You push the gate with your hip. Beyond it the field runs down to the sea, and the bus rolls through on its own weight, slow and sure, the way it used to roll down Mill Road with the windows open and the radio gone to static. Somewhere below, a bell buoy keeps time for nobody in particular.
