Bow tattoo with kissing couple under stars
Neo-trad · Thigh · Colour · Photo
A bow shaped tattoo with a lace edged border contains a night sky scene in which two figures kiss beneath stars, with a red cape and a small heart shaped motif at the centre. The ribbon tails are purple with gradient shading and bold dark outlines. Bright colour dominates the piece, set against plain skin.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
Right, sit closer, and mind the flour sacks, they bite. You want the story before the ovens wake, so I'll tell it while Tobias gets the first tray in. Back when this town had one bakery and no bus, a girl called Maud Pennock worked the night shift for her uncle, and every morning at four she walked the lane with a basket of loaves and a red wool cape her mother had knitted too big on purpose, so it would last.

On the far side of the river lived a lad named Ferris who delivered coal, and he had a habit of stopping his cart under the one lamp by the chapel to look up. Maud asked him once what he was looking for. He said the stars were the only thing in Westbrook that never sent a bill. She laughed so hard she dropped a bun in the gutter, and he picked it out, brushed it on his sleeve, and ate it himself, which she considered a proposal of sorts.
They met under that lamp every dawn for a summer. Then the coal merchant sent Ferris north to the pits, and Maud's uncle sold the bakery to a man who wanted it for cakes. The last morning, Maud stood at the chapel corner with her cape on and no basket, and the sky was full of the kind of stars you only get before the ovens fire up. Ferris had tied a purple ribbon to the lamppost, its ends frayed from weather.
She did not wait for him in the old way. She went north herself, on the mail coach, with the ribbon knotted round her wrist and a loaf wrapped in newspaper for the journey. Some stories end with a kiss at the lamp. This one ends with two people finding each other at a coal face three hundred miles off, and a lace-edged bow tied round the whole business so nobody would forget which way home lay.
