Bride to be ring temporary tattoo

Forearm · Colour · Photo

A gold metallic foil temporary tattoo shows the words BRIDE to be inside a circular ring, with a diamond on the right and four small sparkles around it. The lettering and ring outline have a textured, foil-like finish, with a slightly uneven edge. The design sits centrally on a light skin tone, against a soft pale background.

Dear Pip, the ovens were already roaring when I let myself in at four, and the flour sacks were sweating in the corner like they'd been out in the rain. You'll laugh, but I'm writing this at the proving table because the kitchen is still too cold for my fingers to hold a pen properly. Mrs Abara's three-tier order is sitting in the walk-in, and the gold leaf sheet I bought from the catering shop keeps curling away from the paper as if it would rather be somewhere else.

She wanted a ring on top, the old-fashioned kind with a stone that catches the light. I made a sugar diamond on Tuesday, facets and all, and it sat on the shelf like a little ice cube. This morning I went to lift it and found the band around it had gone soft in the damp. The edges had frayed and the gold was flaking off in my palm like foil from a chocolate Santa.

So I did what Dad taught us in the back room. I took the cutter and went round the ring again freehand, letting the line wander where the sugar had slumped. I pressed the letters in with a cocktail stick, BRIDE in capitals, and a smaller 'to be' underneath, because the order said so and because I thought she'd want it to look a bit less perfect. Four sparkles went on last, stuck down with a dab of egg white. One of them is lopsided. I'm not fixing it.

The window's going grey now and the first van is idling outside. When I slid the box across the counter at seven, she opened the lid, looked at it for a long time, and said it was the first thing all month that hadn't needed fixing. I'm not sure I believe her, but I'm keeping the crooked sparkle for myself. Come home at Christmas and I'll show you. Love, Nell.
