Cartoon cupcakes and pastel characters design

Colour · Flash

A colour drawing of a tattoo design arranged as a cluster on a dark purple cloud base. It shows a white cartoon cat with a pink bow, a pink care bear with a heart on its belly, a green pony with a yellow mane, and three frosted cupcakes, alongside a swirled lollipop, a red bow, hearts and stars. The bold outlines are filled with flat pastel colour and soft shading, and the figures are spaced across the page with the pony at the centre.

Sit down, you lot, and mind the sugar on the step. Far above the last of the grey hills there was a kingdom called Mallowmere, and it sat on a purple cloud so soft that cupcakes grew on it like mushrooms after rain. The cloud was ruled by no king at all, only a little green pony called Minty Thistle, whose yellow mane tangled into knots whenever she worried. She worried about everything, which is why she kept a lollipop sun turning above the rooftops, so nobody would ever be left in the dark.

One evening the lollipop stopped. It hung over the cloud like a bruised apple, and the stars the bear had painted on the sky began to fade. Pim, the white cat with the pink ribbon, came padding along the rooftops with a teddy bear tucked under one arm, and she said the sweet thing had gone sticky and cold. Hearthug, the pink bear with two hearts stitched on his belly, only shook his head and said he had no sugar left to give. Minty looked at her green hooves for a long while. Then she untangled her mane, took the last cherry-topped cupcake from the cloud's edge, and pushed it across to the cat. "Eat it," she said. "Then blow on the lollipop."

Pim ate, and Hearthug blew, and Minty blew too until her mane flew loose. The sun turned slowly on its stick, and the stars came back in pink and green sparks, settling on the cloud like sugar on a windowsill. Some say they are still there if you look close enough.

So when you see a cupcake on a cloud, take a bite and pass it along.
